#UofTGrad17: The ringing bells of convocation
Graduating students have heard Roy Lee playing 鶹Ƶ's 51-bell carillon for the last 15 years.
The bells atop Soldiers' Tower – ranging in weight from 4 tons to 23 pounds – will ring out over the next few days as the university hosts 27 convocation ceremonies over 13 days.
“It's been a tradition that is played every year for convocation,” says Lee, who began playing when he came to study at 鶹Ƶ's Faculty of Law. “It's one thing that connects the graduating classes throughout the years. So, the class that graduated in 1928 heard the very same bells as the Class of 2017. All these classes will be congratulated upon their graduation.”
