Students, faculty, staff and alumni receive African Scholars Awards

The University of Toronto’s third annual African Scholars Awards ceremony recognized 25 students, faculty, staff and alumni for their achievements and leadership in fields ranging from social entrepreneurship and theatre to medicine and law.

The awards, created by the university’s African 鶹Ƶ Association, are designed to encourage a culture of African excellence at 鶹Ƶ, and give members of the association the chance to share their experiences with current students and alumni.

At an event at the William Waters Lounge in Woodsworth College, Kelly Hannah-Moffat, 鶹Ƶ’s vice-president of human resources and equity, said 鶹Ƶ’s excellence stems in part from its diversity and inclusivity. “It’s very important for us to welcome people in our spaces, make sure people feel included in our spaces, and encourage you to be here and take the space you deserve to have.”
